Jewels on Wheels takes Bibi van der Velden’s creations on a drive through Rosewood Amsterdam, offering its guests an intimate, story-led experience
There’s an enchanting installation on the move, ready to stop the curious in their tracks. Part interactive display, part miniature museum, and part mobile boutique, Jewels on Wheels is a roaming jewellery cart that brings a fantastical world to life at Rosewood Amsterdam.
Designed by Dutch jeweller and artist Bibi van der Velden, the meticulously engineered museum on wheels is a sculptural masterpiece that transforms fine jewellery into a story-led experience. The cart, with its wooden frame inlaid with intricate marquetry that feature botanical motifs, is stained in the artist’s signature malachite green and accented with deep Delft blue as a tribute to Dutch heritage.
Among a dreamlike jungle built with an elemental togetherness—plants brushed with gold leaf, ceramic clouds gilded in gold, an alligator symbolising water and a scarab automaton that brings the idea of rebirth and transformation to life—is a rotating collection of 30 signature pieces and one-of-a-kind creations from the artist’s most iconic collections. Made of 18k recycled gold and set with the most extraordinary materials, such as ancient mammoth tusk and malachite, each piece embodies the hotel’s ethos of refined innovation and modern heritage.
Guests may find the cart throughout the property, be it The Court, Grand Library, or even at their doorstep (simply ring it up for a private experience). Interaction is encouraged, and guests are welcome to try on the pieces, open hidden drawers and use the magnifying glasses to explore the intricacies. Find anything you like? One can easily purchase the jewellery directly from the cart and enjoy Bibi van der Velden’s wearable art at once.
