Restored ’69 Shelby GT350 to star in Phoenix auction
Echoing the golden era of American muscle, the 1969 Shelby GT350 “B Production” Fastback is set to make a spectacular appearance at the auction in Phoenix, Arizona. This vehicle, a relic of racing history, once lost to theft and wreckage, is now revived to its former glory. Beginning life as a Silver Jade GT500, this Shelby was shortly stolen and abandoned, before the owner of ABC Auto Wreckers Jerry Lancaste purchased the damaged vehicle. Under his care, it transformed from a forgotten wreck into a formidable SCCA B class competitor, boasting a powerful Boss 302 engine and a resilient roll cage.
The GT350’s journey is marked by relentless metamorphosis. It saw a shift to a 351 Cleveland V-8 engine under subsequent owners, and its life took a dramatic turn when a catastrophic fire threatened to end its legacy. However, the combined expertise of hot-rodder Doanne Spencer and Mustang specialist Dave Mani brought it back from the brink. Their painstaking restoration turned this car into a stunning showcase of automotive resilience and engineering finesse.
Now, after an investment exceeding US$141,000, this Shelby GT350 is a marvel of restoration. Its engine, meticulously built by Skip Govia Racing Engines, delivers a formidable 437 horsepower. Dressed in swashbuckling blue, the muscle car charms with its seductive curves and exemplifies the unyielding spirit of classic car enthusiasts. Its eligibility for the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association Gold Medallion further adds to its distinguished pedigree.
As the RM Sotheby’s auction at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa approaches, this Shelby GT350 is poised to capture the hearts and bids of collectors. A piece of racing heritage, it’s eagerly waiting to claim its spot on the auction block. With expectations soaring between US$200,000 to US$300,000, this blue-and-white chariot stands ready to embark on its next chapter, carrying its already storied legacy into the future.
