The third edition of the annual fundraising event, which took place in Los Angeles, California on 3 December, saw a bevy of A-listers hit the red carpet in stylish designer ensembles. This year’s gala honoured Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, and Sofia Coppola for their contributions to cinema and storytelling while raising funds for the museum’s exhibitions and public programming.
“We are excited to gather again at our third annual Academy Museum Gala to celebrate the power, global impact, and indelible importance of cinema,” Jacqueline Stewart, director and president of the Academy Museum, said in a statement earlier this year. “I am truly honoured to recognise four artists, Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, and Sofia Coppola, whose creativity and passion have inspired and shaped our culture in such powerful ways.”
The soiree, which was co-chaired by Ava DuVernay, Dr Eric Esrailian, Halle Berry, and Ryan Murphy, also proved to be an opportunity for celebrities to gussy up in elegant eveningwear. The outfits ranged from relatively traditional (Sterling K. Brown’s monochromatic Dolce & Gabbana look) to wonderfully unconventional (LaKeith Stanfield’s leopard Saint Laurent number). One thing’s for certain, though, all the gents looked immaculate. Need proof? See the list of the best-dressed men of the evening below.
