The NFL legend hit the blue carpet for the grand opening of Fontainebleau Las Vegas dressed to the nines
Wherever Tom Brady roams, you can expect some superb wrist candy to follow.
The former New England Patriot stepped out onto the blue carpet to celebrate Fontainebleau’s Las Vegas grand opening on Wednesday, 16 years after the project broke ground. The luxury resort and casino’s swanky soirée had plenty of stars in attendance, including Keith Urban, Lenny Kravitz, and Kim Kardashian, but it was Brady who shined brightest. The retired quarterback rocked a charcoal grey three-piece suit with a polka-dot tie and black dress shoes alongside a sophisticated Patek Philippe Grand Complications watch that brought the look to life.
Known as the Sky Moon Tourbillon, ref. 5002J-001 stems from the manufacturer’s introduction of the Star Caliber 2000 at the start of the new millennium. That 21-function pocket watch inspired Patek to launch a wristwatch spin-off in platinum by 2001. Brady’s 18-karat yellow-gold iteration was released afterwards and was discontinued by 2014, along with the rest of the Sky Moon Tourbillon series. Lucky for him, its luxe features are quite timeless.
Aside from its radiant gold case, the 42.8 mm model houses a white dial with Roman numerals alongside four subsidiary dials that indicate the day, month, leap year, and moon phases. The retrograde date display is done in an eye-catching red enamel, and the watchmaker’s classic Patek Philippe Geneve signature adorns the top of the watch face. The backside of Brady’s timepiece is transparent and topped by sapphire-crystal for a clear view of its mechanical movement.
The in-house movement, meanwhile, is laced with 55 jewels and runs at a frequency of 21,600 vph. In addition to the tourbillon and moon phase, the watch offers up a minute repeater and an eternal calendar. The 48-power reserve and water resistance of up to 30 metres are just bonuses. A black leather crocodile strap ties the piece together with an 18-carat yellow-gold folding clasp. If you want to follow in the footsteps of the former quarterback, you can snag the watch for yourself on the resale market for a cool US$1.35 million.
Brady isn’t the only one showing the Sky Moon series some love. Two weekends ago, a Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon ref. 5002P-001 headed to auction via Christie’s, where experts estimated it would sell for between US$1.2 million to US$2.1 million; the timepiece eventually hammered down just above the low-sales estimate at US$1.5 million. And it’s no surprise that the N.F.L. superstar would rock a model from such a coveted line. This year alone, we’ve spotted nine eye-catching timepieces on Brady’s wrist and it’s only a matter of time until we see what else he unearths from his collection.
