UBS and Sergio García inspire the next generation of golfers

UBS Golf Challenge 2025 saw Sergio García mentor young golfers at Tanah Merah Country Club

Few golfers have made their mark on the sport quite like Sergio García. With over 40 professional victories, including a Masters Tournament win, his career has been built on precision, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. At the UBS Golf Challenge 2025, held at Tanah Merah Country Club, a select group of young golfers had the rare chance to see that mastery up close, taking home more than just a few technical pointers.

Ranging from the ages of 11 to 16, the aspiring talents from the club had front row seats to García’s interactive golf clinic. The champion broke down the nuances of chipping techniques—one of the trickiest yet most essential aspects of the game—and offered the young talents a glimpse into the mind of a seasoned professional. The session then moved to the course, where the young golfers put theory into practice, teeing off alongside one of the sport’s greats before rounding off the day with a one-on-one photo session.

The event carried a larger purpose beyond the fairways. In celebration of Singapore’s Diamond Jubilee and UBS Optimus Foundation’s 25th anniversary, guests participated in the Drive for Good Charity Challenge. Every 60-metre drive triggered a S$60 donation from UBS to its charity partners, with additional contributions from participants further matched by 20 per cent from the foundation. The initiative has raised close to S$45,000 thus far.

“We are proud to share with Sergio García the same values of dedication and precision, while making a meaningful impact in the community,” says Patricia Quek, head of UBS Wealth Management Singapore said. “UBS had the opportunity to connect the communities we serve by creating a platform for aspiring young golfers to engage with world-class golf professionals like Sergio García. We hope that the mentorship, shared passion, and inspiring moments on the course were an encouragement to our rising golf stars.”
