A sense of wander
Adventuring, exploration and the great outdoors were a huge inspiration for spring. From fashionable vagabonds at Prada to the camouflage seen at Givenchy, the runways were consumed by wanderlust. Parkas fashioned from technical nylon, safari jackets inspired by the plains of Africa (but in featherweight silks), walking sandals and functional backpacks — there’s no time like the present to step into the wild, in style.
Bold Shoulders
The power shoulder of the 1980s is back in a big way. Height and a slender physique help with pulling this trend off as blocky shoulders that sit close to the ground can make you look like a square.
Off-white is right
Crisp whites are a wonderful shade for the heat of summer but this season, look to slightly duller variations. Think ivory, ecru, alabaster and cream — shades that lend a little softness to the harsh glare of true white.
Show Some Skin
Designers borrowed heavily from the hallmarks of the leather community. Accessories such as biker caps, aprons, harnesses and dog collars lent a slightly kinky touch to the collections.
Cuban Collars
Exude old-world sophistication with a Cuban collared shirt or jacket. A popular style in the 1950s, the classic look features an open collar much like a notch lapel and is traditionally cut with a boxy hem.
Back on Track
Comfort is key and nothing beats jumping into a comfy tracksuit after a long day at work. The options proposed at Fendi, Berluti and Bally are infinitely more luxurious than what one would wear to the gym and are most definitely stylish enough to sport in a bar.
Boiling Up
The second type of suit to look at this spring is the boilersuit. Devised as a coverall to protect clothing when performing manual work, the boilersuit has been given chic updates at Louis Vuitton, Sacai and Hermes. It’s the ultimate lazy weekend outfit — one item to slip in and out of.
Hear me Roar
It’s a little bit flamboyant but a whole lot of rock and roll: go for a walk on the wild side with a healthy dose of leopard. Limit the print to one item per outfit to avoid looking like a Halloween costume.
