By Hannah Choo 2 October, 2024

Make the weekend count with spirit-lifting cocktails at East47, Abura Kappo and Cat Bite Club

East47

What about: Launched in September, East47 is a new intimate space (see featured photo) that sits within Manhattan Bar, offering a gastro-cocktail experience to only 12 guests at any time. In the hands of head bartender Antonino Donato, assistant bar manager Riccardo Lugano (previously from London’s Connaught Bar), and chef de cuisine Carolyn Or, the bar pays homage to the uninhibited moments of the 1960s cultural avant-garde, blending its free spirit with forward-thinking innovation.

What to order: The debut menu spotlights Andy Warhol’s iconic Silver Factory on East 47th Street in New York City, celebrating iconic figures, artworks and rivalries that shaped his world. Echoing Warhol’s Marilyn Diptych is the Cosmo Marilyn, a Cosmopolitan-style drink that pairs vodka and tequila with milky oolong, passion fruit and pecan, while Miss Brown, a sophisticated take on the espresso martini, pays tribute to Tally Brown, an actress who became a Warhol superstar. Enjoy the cocktails on their own or as part of a degustation experience, where three food and cocktail pairings will go for S$140 a person.

Abura Kappo

What about: Brought to you by chef Kenjiro “Hatch” Hashida, Abura Kappo is another culinary playground hidden within Hashida Singapore’s premises. Here, guests are taken on a 13-course adventure with a selection of cocktails (or mocktails), where boundary-bending creativity takes centre stage.

What to order: From palate-cleansers to riffs on classics, highlights include the Genmaicha Sour, shaken with egg white and house-made roasted rice syrup; and the Bloody Mea-rī, a take on the iconic drink that involves Tanglin Gin’s Singapore Gin, sweet amela tomato, a dash of shoyu and a pinch of yuzu kosho.

Cat Bite Club

What about: Cat Bite Club is the lifelong dream of Gabriel Lowe and Jesse Vida, childhood friends with over 30 years of hospitality experienced combined. Tucked away behind a cosy cafe known for its buttery bakes, the equally intimate bar is anyone’s gateway to the big world of agave and rice spirits. There is also a selection of vodka, gin and whisky if the mood calls for it.

What to order: The drinks can be unconventional but they are approachable. In the latest and biggest menu update, we recommend ordering the Hulk Splash, a savoury highball made with Ocho Blanco Tequila, fresh citrus, Fernet Hunter Granit and roasted broccoli. Just as excellent is the Rice Rice Daisy, a refreshing cocktail shaken with Iichiko Muni Shochu, Imo Shochu, rhum agricole, baijiu, miso, coconut, coriander and citrus—a mouthful, but a delicious one at that.
