Starwood’s 1 Hotels makes its Asia debut in Tokyo this March 2026

By Robb Report Singapore 23 January, 2026

Just a stone’s throw away from the Imperial Palace, 1 Hotel Tokyo is an urban sanctuary set to redefine sustainable luxury in the capital city

March is quite a happening month for the city of Tokyo. There’s the annual fire-walking festival in Mt Takao, right on the western edge of the city; cherry blossoms showing up in late March; and a new biophilic sanctuary set to redefine sustainable luxury in the capital city.

That would be 1 Hotel Tokyo, a landmark Asia debut by 1 Hotels, the mission-driven luxury lifestyle brand founded by Barry Sternlicht, CEO of Starwood Capital Group. Located within the Akasaka Trust Tower, the hotel—the result of a longtime collaboration between 1 Hotels and Mori Trust—will anchor Tokyo World Gate Akasaka, a pedestrian-friendly hub of offices, retail and culture.

From the 38th to 43rd floors, guests will enjoy sweeping views of the Imperial Palace gardens, Tokyo Tower and city skyline. Biophilic design, behind a hallmark of 1 Hotels, connects one to nature at every turn, from the lobby’s vertical botanical installation to preserved greenery woven throughout the interiors.

There are 211 guest rooms to pick from, with 20 suites and three penthouses built to impress. Designed with intention and wellness in mind, each space functions as your personal calming retreat until you’re ready to experience the 1 Hotel Tokyo world and beyond. There’s a spa offering treatments inspired by both Japanese and Western traditions, a light-filled indoor pool with access to an outdoor garden, and the Lobby Lounge & Bar, an all-day space that transitions into a Japanese gin bar at night.
