Date Night: Nook, a multi-concept space on Craig Road, takes on modern European dishes with an Asian flair

By Hannah Choo 10 July, 2024

The three-level Nook begins with a restaurant at the ground, followed by a cocktail bar and private members lounge

What’s the story?

Nook is the place to go if you want a cocktail, party or dinner date. The multi-concept space, fairly new to the Tanjong Pagar neighbourhood, spans 675 square metres across three levels. Designed with an industrial and brutalistic look (not exactly our cup of tea), it invites you to dig into modern European fare on ground level, before heading up to Nowhere, a bar that doubles as an event space for as many as 100 guests. The third level belongs to the Members Lounge, a private room equipped with VR golfing and cosy seating.

Tell us more about the food.

The food is more refined than you might think. Led by head chef Koh Han Jie, previously from Ce Soir in Portsdown, the menu celebrates a diverse range of contemporary European cuisine, touched with a good amount of Asian flair.

Highlights include the Crispy Scales Kinmedai Alfonsino (pictured above), made with skin expertly fried to a crunch and paired with caviar beurre blanc; and the Aqina 1/2 Organic Chicken, aged for seven days and served with charred scallions. It is also best had with a bowl of Koshihikari Rice, cooked the Hainanese way and served with cockscomb, an obscure form of chicken offal.

For an extra shot of rice, end the meal with some Warm 70% Guanaja Molten Lava Cake, a basic but reliable sweet treat that comes with Koshihikari rice sorbet.

What else should we know?

The bar upstairs is your go-to for cocktails, whether you enjoy a classic like an Espresso Martini or a signature iteration like Garden (Hendrick’s, apricot, elderflower, green apple, cucumber, mint and lime). You may also enjoy a decent list of spirits and then some (bubbly, wine and non-alcoholic, if you must).
