The iconic hotel has been reimagined
Frequent flyers to Thailand will surely remember the original Dusit Thani Bangkok. Closed in 2019 for redevelopment, the building (first opened in 1970) was immediately recognisable by its iconic golden spire and had become a beloved part of the cityscape.
After five years of development, the golden spire is now back up in Bangkok, albeit perched atop a sleek, new building. In reality, the spire isn’t the original one either but purveyors of nostalgia and sentimentality will be happy to know that it’s been incorporated into the building—deftly contained within the new, three-times larger spire.
It is within this context that Dusit Thani Bangkok wants its reopening to be seen—a refreshed and elevated new hotel, steeped in old-world charm. Completely rebuilt from the ground up as part of the Dusit Central Park mixed-use development (the US$1.4 billion project will house office spaces, premium residences, and retail experiences) Dusit Thani Bangkok is open to discerning travellers once again.
“For over five decades, the original Dusit Thani Bangkok was a beloved landmark,” says Ms Suthumpun, group chief executive officer of Dusit International. “As we embarked on its reimagination, we were committed to honouring that legacy while exceeding the expectations of today’s sophisticated guests.”
Designed by Arcitects 49, every room in the hotel, totalling to 257 (a reduction from the original’s 517), boasts unobstructed views of Lumphini Park. This direct connection to one of Bangkok’s largest green spaces offers guests a serene opulence that ties in nature with the property’s urban chic.
Our goal,” explains Mr Somkiat Lo-Chindapong, deputy managing director of Architects 49 Limited, “was to seamlessly integrate world-class design with the legacy of the original hotel.”
He continues, “this approach is evident in the building’s positioning within Dusit Central Park, ensuring each guest room offers unobstructed views of Lumpini Park through large bay windows with a luxurious gold finish.”
The hotel has also introduced Devarana Wellness, a wellness hub that extends beyond the traditional spa experience, offering personalised wellness journeys designed to rejuvenate both the body and mind.
For business travellers and event planners, the hotel provides over 5,000 sq m of dedicated meeting and event space. At its heart is one of Bangkok’s largest grand ballrooms, featuring an impressive eight-metre-high ceiling and stunning panoramic views of Lumphini Parks. Additional meeting spaces cater to both intimate gatherings and larger conferences, offering flexibility and state-of-the-art amenities to meet any occasion.
