The 2024 edition of the Ball in Monaco returns to Singapore this November, and will be graced by H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco and guest-of-honour Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs
The prestigious Ball of Monaco continues its mission to raise awareness and funds for pressing global issues. The degradation of glaciers takes centre stage for this year’s event, which will be held in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands on 27 November.
Aptly titled The Glaciers, the event’s theme aligns with the United Nations General Assembly’s initiative, Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences, which calls for awareness and action to overcome the challenges facing our planet’s ice masses—especially in the next 10 years.
Glaciers cover about 10 per cent of the Earth’s land surface, and are vital in regulating global sea levels, weather patterns, and freshwater supply. However, they retreating at an unprecedented rate, contributing to rising sea levels and altering ecosystems around the globe.
At Ball in Monaco 2024, the event’s hosts aim to spotlight the detrimental effects of glacier degradation, which, if left unchecked, will severely impact “biodiversity, natural habitats, and even cultural identities tied to these ancient ice formations”.
Organised by the Asian branch of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Ball will be hosting global leaders, scientists, philanthropists, and environmental advocates. With an aim of fostering collaboration to preserve glaciers and mitigating climate change, the event will also serve as a platform for sharing insights, forging partnerships, and inspiring action to protect these vital natural resources.
Attendees, too, will be immersed in a unique 360-degree projection experience, designed to highlight the fragile beauty of glaciers and emphasise the need for immediate, collective action to preserve them for future generations.
