It’s a wrap: Jonathan Anderson concludes his time at Loewe

By Amos Chin 17 March, 2025

For over 11 years, Jonathan Anderson has served as the creative director of Loewe

Jonathan Anderson’s departure from Loewe marks a pivotal moment for the house. After eleven years as creative director, the British designer leaves behind a legacy of reinvention, craftsmanship, and cultural resonance that has redefined the brand’s identity.

Since taking the helm in 2013, Anderson transformed Loewe into one of fashion’s most dynamic forces. His ability to merge heritage with innovation resulted in groundbreaking collections, artful campaigns, and iconic designs—none more celebrated than the Puzzle bag, which this year marks its 10th anniversary. His deep respect for craft was not just an aesthetic choice but a guiding philosophy, exemplified by the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, an initiative he launched to safeguard endangered artisanal traditions worldwide.

Reflecting on his departure, Anderson shared: “While reflecting on the last 11 years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, the tenacity and the resourcefulness to find a way to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas,’ says Anderson. ‘While my chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come, and I will look on with pride, watching it continue to grow, the amazing Spanish brand I once called Home.”

Loewe’s CEO Pascale Lepoivre acknowledged Anderson’s lasting influence: “I am incredibly grateful to Jonathan Anderson for the eleven years of unmatched creativity, passion and dedication that he has given to Loewe. With him as its creative director, the House has risen to new heights with international recognition. The Puzzle bag, celebrating its 10th anniversary, has become a true icon, and the brand codes that he has created, rooted in craft, will live on as his legacy.”

Sidney Toledano, chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group, echoed this sentiment: “I have had the pleasure of working with some of the great artistic directors of recent times, and I consider Jonathan Anderson to be amongst the very best. What he has contributed to Loewe goes beyond creativity. He has built a rich and eclectic world with strong foundations in craft which will enable the House to thrive long after his departure.”

As Loewe turns the page to its next chapter, Anderson’s impact remains unmistakable. Meanwhile, speculation swirls around his next move, with rumours suggesting he is set to take the helm of both womenswear and menswear at Dior, succeeding Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones, respectively.
