Montblanc unveils a capsule collection for the Year of the Horse

Red, gold, and plenty of symbolism surround the Lunar New Year. With the Year of the Horse fast approaching, we’ve seen no shortage of brands getting in the saddle. With a new Lunar New Year capsule collection wreathed in red—alongside a selection of writing instruments and watches—Montblanc looks to add yet another chapter to this year’s festivities.

At the heart of the capsule is a recurring motif: an illustrated horse conceived by Artistic Director Marco Tomasetta. Shown in motion among stylised clouds, the image emerges from a continuous line drawn by a fountain pen, linking the Year of the Horse to Montblanc’s long-standing association with the art of writing.

Accompanying this is an infinity-shaped cloud pattern, a discreet reference both to the figure-eight motion used to test Montblanc fountain pen nibs and to the number eight’s association with prosperity and good fortune in Chinese culture.

This visual language carries across the capsule’s leather goods and stationery, rendered in tones of red and gold through embroidered gabardine and printed Sartorial leather. A thin briefcase and mini crossbody are joined by smaller accessories, including a pen pouch, passport holder, and notebook.

Cohesive and celebratory, the capsule is presented alongside a familiar selection of Montblanc’s broader offerings. Complementing the festive red leather goods and accessories is a small range of writing instruments and a timepiece, aligned with the season in palette.

Two Montblanc Meisterstück models accompany the Year of the Horse offering. The Meisterstück Golden Hour Solitaire draws on the fleeting moment just before twilight, rendered in translucent burgundy lacquer layered over an engraved hexagon pattern and finished with gold-coated fittings. A handcrafted solid Au 750 gold nib completes the composition, with fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint versions available in LeGrand size.

More restrained in approach, the Meisterstück Burgundy Red revisits Montblanc’s core icon in deep burgundy precious resin. Paired with gold-coated fittings, the fountain pen features a bi-colour solid Au 585 gold nib, with rollerball and ballpoint iterations extending the line.

The seasonal selection extends into horology with the Star Legacy Moonphase Limited Edition 1786. Featuring a burgundy glacier-patterned dial finished with a subtle sfumato effect, the watch introduces a sophisticated layer of symbolism through its moonphase complication. Powered by the MB 24.31 automatic movement and housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, it situates the Lunar New Year within a broader reflection on time and cycles.
