Minor Hotels unveils Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze as the first property under its new Colbert Collection brand, bringing renewed life to a centuries-old Florentine landmark
The romance of Italy needs little introduction. From the panoramic vistas of Tuscany and the winding canals of Venice to the Renaissance grandeur of Florence, the country has long been a haven for discerning aesthetes. Pair this rich splendour with a heritage steeped in art, craftsmanship and centuries-old traditions, and you have a destination that continues to captivate travellers in search of beauty and meaning alike.
Minor Hotels, with the launch of Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze, Colbert Collection, will be hoping to tap into exactly that. Marking the global debut of the new Colbert Collection brand, the historic Florentine property invites guests into an intimate address where heritage, gastronomy and a deep sense of place come together, all set within one of Italy’s oldest hotels.

First mentioned in official documents in 1386, the building that today houses Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze, Colbert Collection has lived many lives over the centuries. Once a refuge for travelling silk merchants, it has journeyed through periods of Renaissance refinement and 19th-century splendour before emerging once again as a carefully restored boutique retreat.
The property comprises 69 guestrooms and suites, each envisioned as an intimate sanctuary inspired by the private chambers of a Renaissance palazzo. Draped headboards, textile canopies, embroidered wall coverings and a palette of mineral tones create interiors that feel opulent without feeling overly grand. The atmosphere, it seems, is designed more towards lived-in elegance than modern minimalism.
Among the highlights are six signature suites that trace the story of both Florence and the building itself, from the Amici Miei Frescoed Junior Suite to the Bartolini Frescoed Suite, where preserved 18th-century frescoes lend an added sense of character. The crown jewel, however, is the Torre Monalda Signature Suite, set within a surviving 13th-century medieval tower and offering sweeping views across Florence.

Elsewhere, original architectural details such as vaulted ceilings and frescoed walls remain central to the experience, thoughtfully preserved and paired with contemporary touches that allow the property’s centuries-old heritage to shine through.
This same philosophy extends into the public spaces. Designed around what Colbert Collection calls the art of gathering, the hotel’s social areas take cues from the Italian piazza — places traditionally shaped as much by conversation and community as architecture. The lobby is envisioned as a contemporary meeting point, dressed with bespoke furnishings, leather textures and warm lighting inspired by classic Florentine lanterns, while a lively bistro bar encourages lingering over drinks and shared moments.

This spirit of connection sits at the heart of Colbert Collection, Minor Hotels’ latest foray into experiential hospitality. Positioned as a premium soft brand, the collection seeks to bring together independent hotels through a shared appreciation for place, culture and gastronomy, while allowing each property to retain its own identity.
“Colbert Collection represents a new chapter for Minor Hotels,” says Gonzalo Aguilar, CEO of Minor Hotels Europe & Americas. “The brand celebrates individuality and invites guests to discover hotels that are deeply rooted in their own world while bonded by a common sensibility. Porta Rossa Hotel Firenze perfectly expresses this philosophy, being a hotel with a soul, rich in story, generous in spirit, and deeply connected to its city.”
