In the realm of luxury cruises, Hong Seh Marine believes that size isn’t the only thing that matters
Hong Seh Marine has always had a secure place in the good books of modern luxury yacht owners. A regular participant in the annual Singapore Yacht Show, the luxury yachts distributor has an impressive fleet of vessels to flaunt, ranging from revered Italian brands like Ferretti Yachts and Riva to American manufacturer Boston Whaler. And while size does matter here, it is also believed that the most stunning cruises aren’t necessarily the mightiest-looking ones. Hong Seh Marine offers the extravagance of a superyacht in family-sized cruising vessels, too. Case in point: Ferretti Yachts’ 670 and Riva Yachts’ 110 Dolcevita.
Ferretti Yachts 670
Ferretti Yachts’ new 670 is a collaboration between designer Filippo Salvetti and Ferretti’s engineering team. The combination of a famous outside architect and in-house specialists gave the Ferretti Yachts 670 its svelte profile and clean lines, 360-degrees of windows on the main deck, social areas on the foredeck, and a long, generous flybridge. The bridge has sun lounges in front, along with a U-shaped settee and dining table, and an outside bar. An optional hardtop is also available.
The Ferretti Yachts 670 joins the 780 and 920 models that were launched in 2017. The new golden child somehow manages to feel like those much larger yachts within the space of a 21-metre hull. The main deck has an open-plan layout, all the way from the cockpit up through the helm station, with big windows and tall headroom that give it an expansive feel. White decor, zebrano cabinets, and lighting inset into the ceiling add a contemporary designer feel.
The yacht has three cabins on the lower deck, including a forward, full-beam VIP, a twin cabin, and a full-beam master with walk-in closet, a large bathroom with glassed-in shower, and a vanity and lounges in the bedroom. Ferretti offers a second version with an extra single cabin for a captain. The Ferretti Yachts 670 comes in two engine options: twin 1,000hp or 1,200hp MAN diesels, giving it a top-end speed of 28 and 32 knots, respectively. The cruise speed is a highly respectable 25 knots.
Riva Yachts 110 Dolcevita
Designed by Officina Italiana Design, Sergio Beretta, and Ferretti’s Product Strategy Committee, the110 Dolcevita lives up to its luxury yacht status, with one of the most beautiful interiors in its class. The saloon on the main deck feels like a glass house, surrounded on all sides by floor-to-ceiling windows, including the rear section joining the cockpit. The saloon is open plan, with low-sitting furniture, a marble floor, and smoked-glass ceiling laid into a stainless-steel frame. The designers did a masterful job of turning an area that could have been over the top into a subtle, refined space. Two sliding panels separate the forward dining area from the main saloon if the owner and guests want a sense of intimacy at dinner.
The forward master suite is also bathed in natural light, with a queen-size bed positioned against the forward bulkhead, offering an exceptional view of either side of the yacht. On the lower deck are four staterooms, roughly equal in size, which is unusual for a yacht this size, which usually carries two large and two small rooms. The crew quarters forward are likewise generous, with two staterooms, the galley, and an L-shaped lounge.
The flybridge is also intricately designed in terms of proportions, with its forward section featuring a dining table and lounge portside, and a second lounge and teak table to starboard. The aft section was left bare, incorporating loose furniture across the large space. These pieces can be removed if the owner wants to use the space for a large get-together (the boat is rated for 20 guests).
The Riva 110 Dolcevita also has a Ferretti-patented stern in which the swim platform lowers into the water and the garage actually floods, making it easy to launch and retrieve the tender. The Riva 110 Dolcevita is powered by twin 16V 2000 MTU diesel engines that give it an estimated top speed of 26 knots. At its cruise speed of 23 knots, it has a range of 430 nautical miles.
