Best watches of August 2026

By Robb Report Singapore 11 September, 2026

From archival revivals to watches built for extreme conditions, these are the best watches of August 2026

What makes a great watch release? The novelties unveiled in August by some of the world’s best watchmakers suggest there’s no single answer. For some, the past remains fertile ground for inspiration; for others, progress means pushing familiar designs and complications somewhere they haven’t quite been before.

Blancpain reaches back to 1968 for a beautifully proportioned take on the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, while Omega answers the enduring appetite for smaller watches with perhaps its most faithful interpretation of the original Moonwatch yet. IWC, meanwhile, flexes its technical muscles with the Perpetual Calendar ProSet, while Panerai and Hublot remind us that the worlds of extreme sport and football remain fertile territory for modern watchmaking.

Different as they may be, August’s releases make one thing clear: whether looking backwards, moving forwards, or simply putting a watch through its paces, there is more than one way to keep horology interesting.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe

Blancpain looks to the archives for the latest Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, revisiting a 1968 model to mark the collection’s 70th anniversary. Limited to 300 pieces, the watch channels the unique character that has distinguished the Bathyscaphe since its 1956 debut, combining the robustness of a dive watch with proportions and details that exude a seamless sophistication.

The 37.4 mm stainless-steel case takes its cues from the vintage reference while incorporating contemporary upgrades throughout. Its slender profile is joined by a unidirectional bezel with a ceramic insert and 120-tooth ball-bearing system, while the box-shaped sapphire crystal recalls the appearance of the hesalite glass used on earlier models. Baton hands and indexes filled with vintage-toned Super-LumiNova reinforce the retro character, complemented by a hand-stitched chocolate calf-leather strap designed to develop a patina over time.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, Blancpain’s automatic movement features an 18k gold rotor and delivers a substantial 100-hour power reserve.

IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar ProSet 140 Years Mercedes-Benz

IWC marks Mercedes-Benz’s 140th anniversary with a suitably technical tribute in the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar ProSet 140 Years Mercedes-Benz. Limited to 140 pieces, the commemorative model pairs a restrained interpretation of the Big Pilot with the Perpetual Calendar ProSet, a complication introduced earlier this year that represents one of IWC’s most significant advances in perpetual-calendar watchmaking.

The entirely gear-based calendar module allows its indications to be adjusted both forwards and backwards from a single crown position, eliminating the need for additional pushers and making corrections considerably more intuitive. The date, month and day occupy separate subdials, while IWC’s characteristic four-digit year display sits between 7 and 8 o’clock.

Housed in a 42 mm brushed and polished stainless-steel case, the watch pairs a black dial with solid-gold appliqués and gold-plated hands, finished with a black rubber strap. The automatic calibre 82665, equipped with IWC’s bidirectional Pellaton winding system, provides a 60-hour power reserve, while the sapphire caseback bears a historic Mercedes-Benz emblem commemorating the 1926 merger of Daimler Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie.

The new Omega Speedmaster 38mm might be the most faithful representation of the original iconic watch yet. Photo by Omega

Omega Speedmaster 38

Small-watch fans have reason to celebrate as Omega gives the Speedmaster 38 its most faithful interpretation of the original Moonwatch yet. Part of a refreshed seven-reference collection spanning stainless steel, two-tone and diamond-set executions, the standout model strips the compact chronograph back to the familiar visual codes of its 42 mm sibling, answering a long-standing appetite for a smaller and more versatile take on the icon.

Housed in a 38 mm stainless-steel case with signature lyre lugs, the watch combines a black “dot-over-90” tachymeter bezel with a black dial, recessed round subdials and, crucially, no date window. The cleaner configuration marks a departure from earlier Speedmaster 38 models, whose oval counters, dual-colour bezels and date displays gave them a character distinct from the Moonwatch. A five-link steel bracelet completes what is arguably the most faithful compact interpretation of the celebrated chronograph to date.

Panerai Luminor Marina

Talk about putting a watch through its paces. Panerai enlisted French døds athlete Côme Girardot to take the Luminor Marina into the wilds of Greenland, culminating in the first-ever døds from an iceberg. The 20-metre plunge saw Girardot hit the water at a theoretical speed of nearly 70 km/h, with a steel Luminor Marina PAM03312 strapped firmly to his wrist.

The stunt forms part of Panerai’s new “Tested in Real Conditions” series and makes a compelling case for the Luminor Marina’s tool-watch credentials. The 44 mm PAM03312, distinguished by the collection’s signature crown-protecting bridge, endured the impact, cold and pressure of the final jump, while the Grade 5 titanium PAM03325 and PAM03323 accompanied Girardot through the expedition’s longer stretches of ski touring, freeriding, and cold-water training.

Hublot Big Bang Reloaded UEFA Champions League Titanium Ceramic

The beautiful game meets the Big Bang once again as Hublot kicks off the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League season with the Big Bang Reloaded UEFA Champions League Titanium Ceramic. Limited to 100 pieces, the watch is the eighth timepiece born from a partnership that dates back to 2015, dressing Hublot’s bold chronograph in the competition’s signature blue.

The 44 mm case combines satin-finished and polished titanium with a bezel in polished titanium and blue ceramic. Beneath it, a matte-blue skeleton dial exposes the chronograph movement, while the football references continue on a blue rubber and white calf-leather strap printed with stars. Turn the watch over and a blue ceramic caseback frames a sapphire crystal bearing the Champions League logo. As an extra flourish for football devotees, each watch arrives with a miniature replica of the competition’s famous trophy and a hologram.

Behind the display is Hublot’s self-winding HUB1280 Unico Manufacture calibre, a 354-component column-wheel chronograph operating at 4 Hz and delivering approximately 72 hours of power reserve.
