Big Wine Freaks goes large on its wine list and party vibes

By Alvin Wong 21 June, 2024

The new champagne and wine bar boasts a huge and heady selection of organic wines matched with an equally vibrant food menu

It is all in the name, really. Big Wine Freaks, the latest tipple spot taking up residence at bustling Bukit Pasoh, is a godsend if you are crazy about wines, champagnes, and fancy a groovy night out.

The funky wine and champagne restobar stocks over 500 labels and 2,000 bottles in its cellar, each meticulously sourced from a mix from new-generation “star producers”, natural wineries from renowned French regions, as well micro-farms from all over Europe. The extensive selection is not just limited to bottles, though. A wine-by-the-glass menu also allows you to sample a wide range of exotic and natural wines.

Serving up what it calls a “party dining experience”, the food menu is just as vibrant. There is sashimi, bar bites, and mains from the open fire grill, pushed out from a kitchen helmed by chef Ash, who previously worked at Sago House and Burnt End. The flavours will take you across Europe to Asia—a studied curation that pairs beautifully with the diverse wine list. Must-try dishes include oysters and caviar, uni toast, and the braised lamb shoulder for sharing.

Decked out velvety red, glossy black and an exuberant collision of art noveau, baroque and modern industrial styles—the work of Italian design firm, B-Arch Architectural Bureau—the champagne and wine bar is unabashedly theatrical.

You can choose to dine communally, sitting at high chairs, standing with friends or, if you prefer a more intimate experience, at the tables along its walls. Wherever you are at, though, your senses will be fired up by the eclectic grooves from the DJ console, relentless action from its open kitchen, and of course, the exuberant food and wine. Make no mistake, Big Wine Freaks is definitely looking to vibe from the get-go.
