Bvlgari reinvents the Tubogas

By Amos Chin 6 September, 2024

The Bvlgari reimagines the Tubogas with 16 new yellow gold jewellery pieces, each paying homage to the brand’s rich heritage and storied craftsmanship

In 1948, Bvlgari embarked on a journey with the Tubogas technique, a method of crafting supple, flexible bracelets that would become the hallmark of its first Serpenti jewellery watch. Taking its name from the gas pipes used in the 1920s to transport pressurised gas, this distinctive technique seamlessly fused functionality with aesthetics during a period marked by the rise of industrial design in Europe.

By the 1970s, Tubogas had achieved cult status, celebrated for its versatility and predominantly yellow gold creations that reflected the boldness of Italian creativity, modern spirit, and eclectic style. It also became an integral part of Bvlgari’s iconic designs, such as Monete, Serpenti, Parentesi, and Bvlgari Bvlgari, often paired with colourful gemstones.

Today, Tubogas makes a triumphant return with an aptly named collection that pays homage to its storied legacy. Here, 16 designs of bracelets and necklaces featuring the technique and radiant glow of yellow gold revitalise the brand’s iconic motifs.

Crafted from seamlessly interlocked gold stripes, the collection’s four bracelets cater to diverse tastes: a classic 18-carat yellow gold version, a modern three-gold variant, and a striking style featuring diamond studs–all of which can be worn alone or paired with other Bvlgari collection. Complementing these are jewellery pieces marked by exceptional flexibility, including a chain necklace with a central Tubogas element and a sleek choker in plain 18-carat yellow gold or accented with diamond studs.

Breathing new life into its Tubogas heritage, a jewellery set, featuring the signature Parentesi design that takes inspiration from Roman pavements, sees a geometric motif dazzled with brilliant diamonds. Additionally, a unique necklace showcases vibrant stones like tanzanite, rubellite, and green tourmaline, framed by geometric hard stone inserts and pavé diamonds, all set in a distinctive triangular Tubogas mesh.

The collection rounds up with the new Bvlgari Bvlgari Tubogas watch, highlighting Bvlgari’s mastery as a jeweller-watchmaker. This timepiece combines the fluid Tubogas bracelet with a double-logo engraved yellow gold case, echoing ancient Roman coin inscriptions. Fashioned in yellow, white, and rose gold, the bracelet’s elegant sheen contrasts with a black lacquered dial and diamond indexes, underscoring Bvlgari’s enduring passion for precious metals.
