A new contemporary Burmese restaurant is coming to Duxton this 13 August 2024

Inspired by Burmese co-founder Nelson Htoo’s family recipes, the menu celebrates authenticity, modernity and the key flavour pillars

What’s the story?

Situated within a heritage shophouse on Duxton Road, Club Rangoon is both a stylish 39-seater space and love letter to the Burmese teahouse. Conceptualised by Common Abode, the same hospitality group behind Hjem in Hong Kong, Club Rangoon celebrates real Burmese cuisine, widening the peephole into this elusive culture.

What’s on the menu?

Chef “Noom” Charrinn Singdaechakarn takes charge here, redefining preconceptions of the cuisine with “accessible iterations of beloved favourites.” Inspired by Burmese co-founder Nelson Htoo’s family recipes, the menu celebrates authenticity, modernity and the key flavour pillars—the sour, savoury and spicy.

“[We] enjoy texture in our food, and we typically combine a bit of rice with the different components of the meal to form a flavourful mouthful,” says Htoo in a statement. “Burmese food is best enjoyed when you have multiple textures and flavours at one go.”

Look forward to iconic dishes like Mohinga, the country’s unofficial national dish. Traditionally had in the morning, rice noodles arrive in a hearty bowl of catfish soup, lightly spiced and scented by lemongrass. The Laphet Thoke, a classic fermented tea leaf salad, features radicchio, cabbage, tomatoes and garlic chips. Other items on the menu include cross-cultural favourites like the Wagyu Beef Cheek Dan Bauk, slow-cooked to a tender bite and served on saffron-flavoured rice.

What else is there to know?

For those who love their cocktails (especially G&Ts), the menu has got you covered. There are six variations of a Gin & Tonic, and five other cocktails featuring the best of Asia, such as fish sauce, lemongrass and chilli. The Rangoon Negroni, also Htoo’s favourite, is made with a peanut oil-washed gin and coriander-infused Campari.
