Garage Italia and Hot Lab turn the Fiat 500 Spiaggina restomod into the ultimate superyacht companion piece

By Robb Report Singapore 9 September, 2026

The new Fiat 500 Spiaggina is based on the rare, open-air variant custom-built in the late ’50s for ferrying the rich and famous

Created in 1936 as one of the smallest mass-produced cars at the time, the Fiat 500 has transcended wealth and class in the decades that followed. It’s earned its status as a cult design classic, and thanks to the recent resurgence of Spiaggina, doorless beach vehicles designed for slow, scenic seaside driving, the trend has come roaring back in the form of a new Fiat 500 Jolly.

The rare, open-air variant of the classic, custom-built in the late ’50s and ’60s for ferrying the rich and famous to and from their yachts, has been given a nautical makeover by Hot Lab and Garage Italia—respectively, a yacht design studio famous for vessels such as the Eternal Spark, and creative agency that specialises in bespoke automotive restorations.

It is the ultimate superyacht companion piece, designed to be stowed aboard and disembarked for an adventure. Obvious nods to its nautical origins include the Nardi Classic steering wheel, marine-grade white and blue floor mats by Italdek, side ropes and indoor-outdoor fabric. The wooden Heritage Tunnel, inspired by vintage speedboats, also recalls Italian nautical tradition, featuring magazine racks and the option for a bottle holder.
