Gin & Juice, a new canned cocktail by Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre, features the work of Ini Archibong

The race to rule the ready-t0-drink market is a constant one, and it could not be a competition without the likes of  Strong Zero, Long Drink and bartender-led ones like the Los Angeles-based Drnxmyth. Adding to the mix is the recently launched Gin & Juice by Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre, and if you are any bit of a Snoop fan, the name probably rings a bell. If it doesn’t, click here.

Gin & Juice is a simple cocktail made simpler. Available in a variety of natural summertime flavours—citrus, melon, passionfruit and apricot—it comes in 355ml cans with 5.9 per cent ABV, a good-enough strength to get the blood flowing. It also features the work of Ini Archibong, an industrial designer known for his work in glass, lighting and furniture. He’s a regular feature at Friedman Benda and being a musician himself, he created a musical instrument for Craft x Tech in Japan.

For Gin & Juice, he went along with a lowrider, hand-drawn by Los Angeles illustrator Wayne Johnson and rendered in four different colors to represent the various flavours. The car takes centrestage against a simple white background, making it an obvious nod to West Coast g-funk culture and LA car culture, as well as Dr Dre’s production style.

“There’s a feeling of minimal perfection that I wanted to instil into the product,” Archibong said in an article by Dezeen. “Dre inspired the minimal aesthetic, with his approach and album art, alongside the sonic quality of his music.”

“Together, we always try to create magic,” continued Dr Dre. “We’re having fun, being creative. And everything about this product is really us. There’s passion behind it and friendship and love and a culture.”
