Flying Without Wings
How should a first birthday be celebrated? For Jade by HSBC Premier, balloons, gifts, cakes, and confetti simply don’t cut it.
Jade is the invitation-only global membership programme launched in December 2016 for HSBC Premier’s most elite members. In commemoration of its first anniversary, Jade members were invited to Luxury in the Skies, an exclusive event held at Wings over Asia, a private aviation club in Seletar. Inspired by a passion for travel and adventure, the event was second in the Origins of Luxury series.
True to the Jade ethos of exclusivity and discovery, the evening took off with a cocktail reception in the Wings over Asia lounge. Affording stunning panoramic views of the private hangar, guests sipped “Above the Cloud” cocktails crafted by mixologists from Mandarin Oriental while viewing the impressive private jet collection.
Digital projection mapping through simulated airplane windows traced the history of flight, beginning in the 1800s with man’s first attempts to take to the skies and ending with Wings over Asia’s private footage of members with their private jets.
After the presentation, a rousing performance by I AM dance collective depicted mankind’s persistence to take to the skies. A leather artisan was also on site to create monogrammed luggage tags and passport covers embossed with the names of guests.
An exquisite four-course dinner commenced with the appearance of “air hostesses”, who ushered guests to their seats. Dressed in aviation uniforms from various eras, the hostesses were live representations of how aviation fashion has evolved over the years.
As it was that special time of the year, the evening concluded with a snippet from the iconic Christmas film Love Actually, a timely reminder of the best reward flight has given mankind – effortless access to our nearest and dearest.
Altogether enriching and entertaining, the evening was testament to Jade’s commitment to excellence and extraordinary service, a sentiment widely echoed by members present at the event.
