Jeep’s first EV, the Wagonner S, is expected to make its full debut this fall

It didn’t take Jeep long to share more information about its first EV.

The automaker just released images of the upcoming Wagoneer S, less than two weeks after announcing the SUV would be its first battery-powered model. They suggest the vehicle will bring some new much-needed energy and style to the brand’s lineup.

Despite its name, the new model doesn’t look all that similar to the other hulking members of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer family. Whereas the two gas-powered SUVs are big and boxy, their electric counterpart is sleeker than anything else currently in the current Jeep lineup. It also looks very close to the concept images the brand released when it first announced the vehicle was in development back in the fall of 2022.

The changes start up front. There you’ll find a pair of razor-thin headlights that blend right into an illuminated take on the automaker’s trademark seven-slot grille. The SUV’s lines, from front to back, are also smoother, signalling that more attention is being paid to aerodynamics, which makes sense considering a lower drag coefficient aids battery efficiency. The vehicle also features a sloping roofline and integrated spoiler that call to mind the rear end of the current Range Rover Velar. The biggest difference between these images and those of the concept is the simplified five-spoke wheels that the finished EV will ride on.

The interior also sports a streamlined look. Images of the cabin show a dashboard packed with four different digital displays. These include a digital gauge cluster for the driver, two touchscreens stacked on top of one another in the centre to control entertainment options and vehicle systems, and another for the passenger that can be used to watch videos. Despite the ample amount of screen space, the vehicle will still have physical controls like a start button and a rotary shift dial, both of which are located on the centre console.

Unfortunately, the images were not accompanied by more technical details. Jeep reiterated that the Wagoneer S will be built on parent company Stellantis’s flexible STLA-Large platform and offer the same 4xe capabilities as its hybrids. It also claimed once again that the powertrain will produce 600 hp and be able to push the SUV from zero to 96 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Expect to learn more as we get closer to the EV’s fall debut.
