Time-honoured craftsmanship and forward-thinking experimentation coalesce as the world’s number one Scotch whisky brand’s unprecedented collaboration births something cool out of apres-ski culture and fashion
Nothing compares to a ski holiday, from the breathtaking views to the sense of accomplishment you get from descending a steep mountain. But if we were being honest, the best part about spending a day on the slopes is everything that comes after—the apres-ski, when the boots come off and the party is getting started. It’s a magical time that begins as soon as the blue hour hits, when the sun dips below the horizon and the moon comes out to play, bathing the world in a deep, mystical blue.
The Essence of Apres-Ski
It’s also a magical moment that calls for that perfect glass of whisky, and we can’t think of anything better than the newly released Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet. Unveiled by brand ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas ahead of the ski season, the limited edition captures the essence of the luxury apres-ski experience with a new rare blend by master blender Emma Walker, and a bottle and bag designed by Perfect Moment.
Collaboration breeds creativity, as Chopra Jonas told Forbes in an interview. There is amazing power in collaboration between two pioneers in luxury: Johnnie Walker Blue Label, a brand with an enduring footprint as the world’s number one Scotch whisky, and Perfect Moment, a luxury ski wear and lifestyle brand from Chamonix, France.
Founded in 1984, Perfect Moment combines fashion-forward designs with technical excellence, enabling a seamless transition from the slopes to the social scene. It also helps that the global ski market, which was valued at approximately US$12 billion in 2023, is anticipated to continue its expansion at a compound annual growth rate of 3.2 per cent from 2024 to 2032, according to MarkWide Research.
The new Johnnie Walker Blue Label expression combines the brand’s iconic square shape with Perfect Moment’s North Star motif and houndstooth pattern, which you will see in the gorgeous deep-blue bottle and bag. The latter is chic, functional and reversible (it doubles as a crossbody bag), making it the perfect accessory to elevate any apres-ski occasion, whether you are into fashion or not.
“The quintessential apres-ski moment embodies the fusion of great fashion and good friends, ideally accompanied by an exceptional drink. Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet captures this essence perfectly, with a nod to the freshness of the mountains and a crossbody bag that looks as good on the snowy slopes as it does by the fireside,” says Chopra Jonas, who also has a stake in Perfect Moment.
The lifestyle brand, in fact, has also launched an Ice Chalet ski wear capsule collection. Inspired by the magic of blue hour, it is made from a new liquid blue and silver fabric and features coordinating designs for both men and women.
Best Served Chilled
The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet follows last year’s Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami, an epicurean journey made by Walker and Kei Kobayashi, the chef-owner of the three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Kei in Paris. It was a collaboration that would make one swoon with its complexity and deliciously rich, caramelised miso notes.
This time, Walker draws inspiration from Alpine landscapes and the bold beauty of winter in order to create an expression worth celebrating over, whether during apres-ski or at Christmas.
While Blue Label is a bit more autumnal, this new edition encapsulates a luxurious winter wonderland, owing its velvety mouthfeel and richness to a meticulously balanced ratio of single malts, selected from Scotland’s northernmost and highest altitude distilleries. Distilled in the depths of Scotland’s harshest winters to achieve distinctive notes, the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet includes single malts from Brora, Dalwhinnie and Clynelish, where only one in 10,000 casks successfully develop the optimal characteristics for the blend.
The result is nothing short of exceptional, with notes of salted honey, cacao and spiced apples, and a luxuriously long, smoky finish that will keep you wanting more. While it is rich and creamy at room temperature, it is best enjoyed ultra-chilled, straight from the freezer or poured over ice to fully release its potential. It’s also delicious in a cocktail, such as a Manhattan or a highball.
Bringing Blue Hour to New Heights
From now to January 2025, Johnnie Walker is officially unveiling the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet with a Blue Hour menu at HighHouse and Nova, the highest restaurant lounge and rooftop bar in Singapore. Enjoy a local interpretation of the apres-ski experience and savour whiskies—both the iconic Blue Label and Blue Label Ice Chalet—in the form of flights and apres-ski-inspired cocktails.
The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ice Chalet can be purchased from asher.sg and other leading retailers in Singapore at the recommended retail price of S$460, inclusive of the crossbody bag by Perfect Moment.
