Frequent travellers to Shanghai will be pleased to learn that St. Regis has unveiled St. Regis on the Bund, a 192-room property set along Shanghai’s historic Bund district. Owned by Pacific Eagle Real Estate, the new hotel marks the brand’s 60th global property and offers stunning views of the leisurely Huangpu river and the towering Pudong skyline.

“The opening of The St. Regis on the Bund, Shanghai marks a pivotal moment in the brand’s expansion, as we celebrate the debut of our 60th property globally,” says Jenni Benzaquen, senior vice president and global brand leader of The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts. “With this milestone, we continue to offer our discerning guests unparalleled experiences on the Bund, blending the rich cultural heritage of Shanghai with the signature rituals and bespoke service that define St. Regis.”

Designed by Norman Foster and Heatherwick Studio, the exterior of the hotel sports a modern, boxy silhouette that’s elegantly contrasted by a subdued copper colourway—lending the property an old-world charm. Inside, you’ll find an Art Deco-style design language, reminiscent of Shanghai in the early 20th century. Adorned with 72 original artworks by artists like Ma Tianyu and Shi Qi, the hotel’s interior spaces are imbued with Chinese culture, evinced by the delicate embroidery and magnolia motifs scattered throughout.

The rooms adopt a similar sophistication. The rooms, which include 13 suites that range from 118 to 288 sq m, are adorned with magnolia motifs and accents of bronze and copper. Additionally, each room is equipped with large windows that bring in a wealth of natural light while offering stunning views of the surrounding skyline.

“The Bund is a blend of Shanghai’s rich history and dynamic modernization, where the cluster of historical buildings juxtaposes the modern skyline of Pudong,” says Bart Buiring, managing director, luxury, Greater China, Marriott International.

Epicureans can look forward to an array of dining options, with Celestial Court, the hotel’s exclusive Chinese restaurant, being of particular note. The restaurant, designed for high-end gatherings and celebrations, serves a fusion of Huaiyang cuisine in a spacious yet intimate setting.

Located in one of the city’s most historic quarters, the hotel is close to various landmarks, including Yu Garden, Nanjing Road Walkway, Oriental Pearl Tower, and Shanghai Museum.
