From the racetrack to television screens to our wrists, TAG Heuer pays a heartfelt tribute with its commemorative Ayrton Senna watch
Here’s one to add to your watchlist, especially for fans of the late motor racing legend Ayrton Senna. On 29 November, Netflix will be releasing Senna, a six-episode drama on the incredible life of the namesake racing icon—the first fiction series ever made about the man, who will be played by TAG Heuer ambassador, Gabriel Leone.
And for watch lovers, here is a timepiece to keep your eyes peeled for: the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna, dedicated to the Formula One icon with whom the watch brand has shared an intimate partnership since 1988.
While this is not the first time that TAG Heuer has honoured Senna with a commemorative timepiece—recent offerings like the Carrera chronograph tourbillons collection released in 2018 and 2019 come to mind—the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna is certainly among the most evocative.
Limited to 500 pieces, the 44mm titanium watch captivates with its muscular profile, striking open-worked dial, and design nods to Senna’s legacy. The carbon bezel, inscribed with “Senna” and a tachymeter scale reaching 400 km/h, echoes his legendary exploits on the track. Additionally, the sub-dial at 9 o’clock is accented in Senna’s signature yellow. Turn the watch over, and one finds an iconic image of Senna with his helmet engraved on the caseback.
The Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna also delivers on the technical front. The architectural open-worked dial offers a glimpse into the watch’s high-performance engine—the automatic Calibre TH20-09, a COSC-certified movement housing the two namesake complications, while promising up to 65 hours of power reserve. Paired with a durable blue rubber strap, it’s as watch that exudes performance and power, perfectly reflecting the spirit of Ayrton Senna.
“Ayrton Senna has marked us all at TAG Heuer and has marked the world of motorsports, both on the track and in life. With this watch, we celebrate his enduring spirit and inspire future generations of champions just as he inspired us,” says Antoine Pin, CEO of TAG Heuer.
