What’s the story?
Once territory to only a privileged few, The Clubroom is a gorgeous restaurant and bar that is finally letting the rest of us in on the secret. Hidden behind a door in glossy midnight blue, The Clubroom was established in late 2021 by the Travis Masiero Restaurant Group, the same collective behind Luke’s Oyster Bar and Chophouse, Blue Label Pizza and Wine, and Nixta Mexican Grill and Bar.
Designed with a 1920s New York speakeasy in mind, The Clubroom is a love letter to Luke’s and its most loyal clientele, serving signature new-American classics alongside wood-fired dishes and excellent cocktails. But instead of the buzzy atmosphere that Luke’s is known for, here it’s a lot more reserved and refined, making it perfect for business meetings and special occasions. Think of it as a private dining room doling out the same style of cuisine and service, but with a heightened level of detail and focus, as founder Travis Masiero would say.
What’s on the menu?
The Clubroom is the heartland of classic European favourites, mainly inspired by America’s East Coast, such as Boston, where Masiero comes from. Begin your meal with some Crispy Feta-Stuffed Sicilian Olives, served with a dusting of chilli and fried rosemary, and Lobster Popcorn, a Clubroom exclusive that comes with Old Bay seasoning and homemade cocktail sauce. Meat lovers will find giddy pleasure in the Cape Grim Tomahawk, marbled for maximum flavour and grilled over a wood fire to perfection, while those who prefer their seafood should not miss out on the Pasta “Juliette”, a capellini, zucchini and rock shrimp dish that tastes more impressive than it sounds.
What else is there to know?
All nights at The Clubroom must end as they do at Luke’s, where several plates of Luke’s Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies arrive at the table. Small, chewy and so decadent, each cookie is served with a glass of savoury stout milkshake, which encourages you to go for the dunk. It’s a famous cookie that’s synonymous with the Luke’s name, and if you need an extra glass of something to enjoy with it, order the Rock and Rye, a cocktail of citrus, cassia and young rye whiskey—the perfect drink to end the meal.
