A home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s disciple is on the market for US$7.8 million

Aaron G Green, who worked closely with Wright, designed a 202-sqm home with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean

Fan of Frank Lloyd Wright? Chances are you’ll like Aaron G Green, another architect who worked closely with Wright. He ran his own practice while serving as Wright’s West Coast representative from 1951 until the master’s death in 1959.

That was the same year Green built The Judge & Jeannie Anderson Residence, which stands as one of his finest works across his repertoire. The oceanfront estate, located across 3.4 acres with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean, Abalone Cove and Catalina Island, just hit the market for US$7.8 million.

While very much influenced by Wright’s teachings, the property exhibits Green’s own expressive architectural vocabulary, with a V-shaped layout drawing the outside in through a single, continuous area.

The procession of space begins with a deeply recessed entryway, while sharply gabled rooflines seem to float above the living space. Privacy and openness are at play here; a primary bedroom wing with head-on ocean views separates itself from the public areas, while the two guest bedrooms and baths overlook a serene and private Japanese garden. From the central dining area, steps take you down to a sunken living room, anchored by a massive stone fireplace with adjacent corner glass walls.

Newer touches include a primary bath expansion, swimming pool update and spa tub addition, overseen by Eric Lloyd Wright (Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandson) in 2003. There are also unrealised plans for two additional bedrooms and baths with their own entryway, designed by Green himself.
