Six celebs flaunted stylish wrist candy on the streets this week

You don’t need a red carpet to bust out a six-figure watch. Just ask Jay-Z. The rapper-turned-entrepreneur continued his streak of wearing high-priced Patek Philippe timepieces, rocking a US$335,000 Grand Complication at the Champions League final last Saturday. Hov wasn’t the only gent flaunting a Patek at the soccer game, either: Real Madrid player Antonio Rüdiger showed off a coveted Tiffany & Co.-signed Nautilus as he hoisted the UEFA trophy.

Other celebs wore slightly more modest wrist candy this week. Football legend David Beckham fittingly sported a Tudor Pelagos at the opening of the first Tudor boutique in Barcelona, British actor Callum Turner rocked a Cartier Tank at a Masters of the Air screening, and Saltburn star Barry Keoghan donned the newly released Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. In addition, tennis pro Novak Djokovic and Welsh actor Luke Evans stepped out wearing watches by Hublot and Rolex, respectively.

Jay-Z: Patek Philippe Grand Complication

Jay-Z has become the poster child for Patek Philippe. The billionaire rapper and business mogul, who has previously been spotted in a Celestial, Grandmaster Chime, and Perpetual Calendar, sported a Grand Complication at the Champion’s League final last Saturday. Released in 2022, this particular Patek is a bejewelled version of the Swiss watchmaker’s legendary perpetual calendar chronograph Ref. 5271.

Mr. Carter’s Ref. 5271/11P features a 41 mm platinum case, a blue lacquered dial, and 80 blue baguette-cut sapphires (5.16 carats) on the bezel, lugs, and clasp. The blue beauty retails for US$335,500 but can cost as much as US$1 million on the secondary market.

Novak Djokovic: Hublot Big Bang Unico

As a Hublot brand ambassador, Novak Djokovic has been spotted in many of the Swiss watchmaker’s stylish models over the years. Most recently, the Serbian tennis star wore a Big Bang Unico Titanium Ceramic to an event in Paris. As the name suggests, the timepiece pairs a 42 mm titanium case with a black ceramic bezel.

In addition, the watch features a striking skeleton dial with a 60-minute counter at three o’clock and a small running seconds subdial at nine o’clock. Inside lies the in-house HUB1280 Unico chronograph flyback movement, which provides a power reserve of 72 hours. The Big Bang comes with a relatively big price tag of US$21,900.

Barry Keoghan: Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Bi-Colour

Barry Keoghan has been rocking Omegas on the red carpet for the past year. It is not exactly surprising, then, that the Swiss watchmaker has named the Irish actor a friend of the brand. In his first official duty, Keoghan showed off the newly released Speedmaster Moonwatch Bi-Color.

The two-tone model combines stainless steel and 18k Moonshine Gold with a sun-brushed silver dial and black ceramic bezel. For further contrast, the iconic tachymeter scale is finished in Ceragold and the subdials are covered in Moonshine Gold. The timepiece also comes in stainless steel and 18k Sedna Gold, with both variations priced at US$18,100.

Antonio Rüdiger: Patek Philippe Tiffany & Co. Nautilus

Real Madrid player Antonio Rüdiger showed off a winning Patek Philippe as he celebrated his team’s victory over Dortmund in the Champions League final. Released in 2021, the Nautilus Ref. 5711 features a dial finished in Tiffany & Co.’s signature blue hue and signed by the jeweller and watchmaker. The sapphire-crystal caseback is also engraved with “170th Anniversary 1851-2021 Tiffany & Co.—Patek Philippe,” in case the collab wasn’t clear.

The highly collectible steel timepiece was originally limited to just 170 pieces and priced at US$52,635 but can fetch more than US$2 million on the secondary market. It stands as the last 5711 ever produced, as Patek cancelled the reference in a bid to avoid having “a hero watch.”

Callum Turner: Cartier Tank Solo

Whether or not he knows it, Callum Turner has coordinated his initials with that of his wristwatch. The British actor wore a classic Cartier Tank to a Masters of the Air screening in Hollywood last Sunday. This particular model is part of the Tank Solo series the Parisian jeweller introduced in 2004.

It has many of the design signatures of the original 1917 Tank, such as a rectangular case, a beaded crown with a blue cabochon, and a white dial with black Roman numerals and a railroad minute track. Cartier started slowly phasing out the Solo in 2022 to make way for the new entry-level Tank Must. A large Solo will set you back around US$5,000 on the secondary market.

David Beckham: Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono

David Beckham has been an ambassador for Tudor since 2017. He does a good job of it, too. The soccer legend attended the opening of the Swiss watchmaker’s first boutique in Barcelona this week with a new Pelagos FXD Chrono on his wrist.

The chronograph is one of two models Tudor released earlier this year to celebrate its partnership with Alinghi Red Bull Racing. The watch features a 43 mm case made from black carbon composite, a titanium bezel, and a blue matte dial. Under the sapphire crystal lie two subdials and a date complication at 6 o’clock. Beck’s chrono will set you back US$5,275.
