Skip the movies and wine bar. Here are some unexpected craft workshops and a hidden dining indulgence to get you spirited away for an hour or more

Indulge in a seven-course Mediterranean private dining experience in a Joo Chiat shophouse local itineraries
Tucked inside a restored Peranakan shophouse, this seven-course Mediterranean experience by Med@59JCT serves sunshine on platters—Moroccan, Turkish, Spanish, and Levantine flavours passed family-style so you can taste widely and linger longer. Chef-host Alban Salord cooks with the warmth
of a home kitchen and the precision of a professional, weaving in stories of heritage, neighbourhood lore and recipes handed down the line.
Between courses, co-host Natalie, who is Salord’s wife, leads a mini tour of the house’s art and architectural quirks; if the weather plays nice, take sunset drinks on the Moroccan-themed rooftop before dessert. Vegetarian menus are happily accommodated and there’s an optional wine pairing that tracks the menu’s arc with aplomb. Cosy, characterful and gloriously convivial; like dining with old friends who just happen to cook brilliantly.

Craft your own moss jukebox
Part objet d’art, part party trick, this workshop by The Mossiah will have you building a transparent Bluetooth jukebox and curating a miniature ‘forest’ within. You’ll start with a primer on preserved moss—how it’s treated to stay lush without watering—before a tactile tour of varietals and textures sourced from France, Japan, Spain, and Italy. Then comes the fun bit: composing your landscape with soft moss, driftwood, vines, and preserved foliage, arranging it neatly inside the clear casing. The result? A fully functioning speaker that looks like a tiny terrarium; calming to glance at, even better when your favourite playlist is humming through it. It’s a satisfyingly hands-on way to bring a little biophilia home and a clever gift for design lovers who prefer their greenery maintenance-free.

Pick up the art of kintsugi at Kintsugi Art Studio
This kintsugi workshop turns breakage into beauty and is a quiet antidote to perfectionism. You’ll be guided through the full arc: selecting a ceramic piece, making the deliberate break (or working with a pre-broken item), then patiently bonding the fragments before tracing the seams with gold powder. Along
the way comes the philosophy that makes kintsugi more than a craft—the idea that repair adds history and value rather than concealing flaws. The result is a luminous object with filigreed scars and a story only you can tell. Expect calm, tactile rhythms, expert guidance, and a satisfying reveal when the final gold vein catches the light.

Build your own mechanical watch at The Watch Academy
The Watch Academy takes you from wide-eyed admirer to confident tinkerer, guiding you through the full ritual: demagnetising tools, opening the case, releasing mainspring tension, and progressively dismantling hands, dial, and movement. You’ll learn to read a timegrapher (rate, amplitude, lift angle, and all that good stuff), clean and peg components, then oil, reassemble, and regulate the movement before setting the dial and hands. It’s meticulous, oddly meditative work; and the best part is taking the mechanical watch home at day’s end, a conversational trophy you now understand inside out.

E-foiling, straight off a yacht
Trade terra firma for take-off. This e-foil session by Tribe Watersports is the only one in Singapore that launches directly from a yacht, whisking you from Sentosa to the cobalt shallows off Lazarus Island before you quite literally rise above it all. Under one-to-one coaching, you’ll learn the basics, throttle up, and begin hovering up to around a metre over the water. Part surf, part flight, and all adrenaline.
It’s designed for first-timers as much as board-sport regulars, with child-friendly options too (under-12s can ride tandem with a coach).
Marking a special occasion? There’s the option of a celebratory platter on board and extra water time to keep the stoke going. Aim for a morning slot; lighter winds and gentler chop make your first hover feel effortless.
