The BR-X5 Meteorite marks Bell & Ross’s boldest evolution yet
Limited to 250 pieces, the BR-X5 Meteorite offers collectors a chance to own a piece of space. Here is a watch with a dial cut not from brass or steel, but from a fragment of outer space itself. The Meteorite marks the first encounter between Swiss manufacture haute horlogerie and a rare extraterrestrial material several billion years in the making.

One outstanding feature is that the dial is machined directly from solid meteorite without a brass base, its feet passing straight through the raw material. A thin PVD coating protects the surface and ensures long-term stability without altering the meteorite’s natural character, which shifts between shades of grey and black as metallic reflections play with the light. While the meteorite may not offer a clean base for legibility, the polished, rhodium-plated “bathtub”-style indices are filled with white Super-LumiNova that ensures the watch reads as clearly at night as it does during the day.

Housing the dial is the collection’s signature 41mm satin-polished steel case, whose open-worked structure reduces physical weight while its multilayer sandwich construction is secured by four exposed screws, the BR-X5’s technical signature. Powering it all is the BR-CAL.323, a manufacture calibre produced exclusively for Bell & Ross and COSC-certified, offering approximately 70 hours of power reserve, a large date display, and backed by a five-year warranty.

The conversation piece of this watch is the Muonionalusta meteorite, an iron meteorite first discovered in 1906 in the Norrbotten region of northern Sweden. Estimated at approximately 4.5 billion years old — nearly as old as the solar system itself — the meteorite is believed to have fallen to Earth around a million years ago, before lying preserved beneath Scandinavian permafrost for millennia.
Once cut and treated, it reveals the Widmanstätten pattern: a natural crystalline structure of fine, organic lines formed through an extraordinarily slow cooling process that unfolded over millions of years in the vacuum of space. This structure cannot be artificially replicated, which means no two dials are identical, each carrying its own mineral signature shaped by the universe long before Earth existed.

Available in either a steel bracelet or a black rubber strap, the BR-X5 Meteorite is a collector’s object, its rarity bound by the exacting standards of Swiss watchmaking, yet built from a material shaped by cosmic forces no laboratory can reproduce. To wear it is to wear something older than the Earth itself, worked by human hands into an instrument for measuring the very time that material has quietly outlasted.
The watch continues Bell & Ross’s three-decade pursuit of instruments built for extremes, a philosophy the Franco-Swiss house — founded in 1994 by Carlos-A. Rosillo and Bruno Belamich — has carried “from the cockpit to the wrist” since redefining watch design codes with the BR-01 in 2005. With the Meteorite, that pursuit finds its most literal frontier yet: not the sky, but the space beyond it.
