To mark IWC turning 150, the Schaffhausen manufacture released a wide range of Jubilee pieces across several collections at the SIHH 2018. These include the Portugieser, Da Vinci and Portofino lines. You’ll be able to identify the Jubilee pieces from afar. Each comes with lacquered dials in either white or dark blue, and has a three-dimensional effect on its hour numerals, achieved by printing the numerals several times over.
The highlight though, is the release of the Pallweber. The pocket watch was first produced in 1885, and for a limited time period. It made quite the name for itself, given that it housed a digital jumping hour and minutes display, a rarity in its era.
This time round, the Pallweber is being offered as a wristwatch. The mechanical piece still sports the same digital jumping hour and minutes display, but comes with a brand new movement. Calibre 94200 took four years to research and develop. Also noteworthy is that the timepiece has two patents pending. One is for the release mechanism for the number discs, and the other, for the arrangement of the discs.
Other prominent novelties by IWC include the Big Pilot’s Watch Big Date Edition “150 Years” that comes with a big date display, a first for the Big Pilot’s Watch.
